Busyness

It's only Tuesday and already I need a weekend to recover...except that my weekend will be anything but relaxing!

Here's what's been going down, and what's to come.

Saturday, of course, found me in the bay area, watching rugby, flirting with fit rugby players, and staying out way past my bedtime. I got home around midnight, and before I could even think about going to sleep, I had to shower the sweat, sunscreen, makeup, and road dust off. Needless to say, I was still pretty tired when I woke up on Sunday. Mom, Dad and I were meeting a couple they are friends with for Easter dinner at the club at 1:00, so I had a leisurely morning, but later forced myself to get out and run a mile. Just a mile; my tired body was not too happy to be pounding the pavement.

Monday found me up early, as usual, cooking my eggs for breakfast and preparing for my 9:00 appointment with M. the Reasonable. I spent the rest of the morning and the early afternoon running (another tired mile) and bustling around getting a few things knocked off my To Do list before leaving the house at 4:00 to...

Ha! Go on a date. Yeah! Been a while.

I met a guy for coffee. It was fun; the conversation flowed and I was actually disappointed that I had to leave as early as I did, but choir rehearsal will not wait, and it's production week for our next concert. I heard back from the guy last night, saying he had a great time and enjoyed our conversation. I replied in kind and hope to hear back from him...we shall see, we shall see.

So yes, choir.

It was our normal Monday night rehearsal, and also our last one before a concert on Saturday that promises to be one of the most amazing choral concerts I've ever participated in, English Grandeur. We are performing some incredible pieces of music, including the monumental and glorious "Belshazzar's Feast," a work that is profoundly difficult but so very worth the effort. It tells the story of Belshazzar, the King of Babylon, who falls from power after using the using sacred artifacts in a sacrilegious manner. It is, hands-down, one of the most difficult pieces I have ever performed (singing a high A-flat at pianissimo--super-soft, that is--requires tremendous breath support and control).

When rehearsal was finished, I drove home--a forty-five minute journey--and spent a few minutes online before crashing, exhausted in bed, only to wake up this morning, which is Tuesday, of course, at about 5:45. I had to get some breakfast cooked and eaten, and then leave at 7:00 with Mom and Dad. They left today on a two-week cruise that will take them through the Panama Canal, and needed to be dropped at Sacramento Airport.

As tired as I was, I knew that if I came straight home I'd never persuade myself to run, plus, the weather is overcast and it's supposed to rain. So I stopped at the gym and did cardio there, stopping briefly to whine to M. the Reasonable that I might be getting a cold (little bit of post-nasal drip going on, but hopefully it's allergies and not a bug) and this could affect whether I see him tomorrow.

So I came home and...promptly went back to bed. Well, I showered first, and had some tea. But I did end up spending a few hours lounging in bed, watching a bit of a movie and sleeping a bit, too. Today feels a bit like a wasted day, but honestly, I needed that. The plan is to take some NyQuil tonight and get to bed really early. I should be able to make it through a workout with M. tomorrow.

The good news is that Wednesday looks to be fairly free of obligations, aside from my appointment with M. and daily cardio (again, must be done at the gym because it's supposed to rain). I hope to catch up on my To Do list and feel more productive.

Thursday and Friday actually look pretty clear. Aside from working out, it looks like I'll have plenty of time for job searching, working on some projects I want to get done, and keeping up with the household stuff that falls entirely on me when Mom and Dad are gone (Mom and I normally take turns doing litter box duty, for example. With four cats, it has to be done every day).

Friday night, I have to be in Sacramento for a three-hour choir rehearsal with the orchestra. It will be hectic, with nearly 300 musicians in a high school gym, but I'm taking my Kindle so I can play Angry Birds whenever we singers are required to sit and wait. And there will be lots of sitting and waiting, as our director brings the orchestra together. They're professionals, but this music is difficult.

Saturday promises to be absolutely nutty. I have been asked to interview for a position with a Summer arts camp (yay!) but the process entails me teaching a group of teenagers (all of whom are ESL), "Little Miss Muffet." Yes, some time will be spent in the next few days figuring out how to make this lesson engaging to teenagers. Oy vey. I'm thinking rap. I need to consult my fellow music nerds on Facebook for ideas.

After that, I may as well stay in Sacramento, rather than driving all the way back to Lincoln. I suppose I can park myself at a Starbucks with the Kindle until 2:00, when I need to be at the Community Center Theater for a rehearsal. After rehearsal, I get a dinner break, then, the show. Which will put me home late, only to get up early on Sunday morning for my fourth 5K this year, the Sacramento Zoo's "Zoo Zoom."

As I said to M. the Reasonable yesterday, "I must be insane."

He just smiled and said, "That's when you get a movie and go home and crash."

That's the plan. For sure.

So things are looking UP. I'm busy, and busy is good. There's interest in private music lessons and there are jobs opening here and there. Continued good thoughts are always appreciated and never rejected.

As for the rest of today--or rather, the hour I have left before taking that NyQuil and climbing in bed with a couple of cats and a good book--I think I'll give myself a break from being busy and just relax.

Cheers!
