I was out for a run this week when it occurred to me that I haven't blogged about my fitness in quite some time.
There hasn't been a whole hell of a lot to report. I haven't been particularly awesome, what with moving and all. So this week, I've made myself get out and run--longer runs, slightly harder runs. I'm getting back down towards a ten-minute mile again, and I'm quite pleased with myself. As I settle into my new home, I will establish a routine and get back to the gym (probably two days a week of intense cardio and weight training) and do more running and body-weight-bearing exercises here at home.
Anyway, the running is going well. I've gone from my flat, exactly-two-miles Embarcadero Loop to Mom and Dad's hilly neighborhood with a lot of long out-and-back routes. I'm not crazy about running on an uphill slope, so I map my routes to contain mostly downhill and flat surfaces. I can't completely escape the uphills, though, so I've been making myself run them, even if it means slowing down to a running crawl and spending a few minutes really hating life.
I'm getting there. As I mentioned, I'm nearing that ten-minute mile again, and I'm able to run a full 15 minutes without stopping. My goal is to do the Run To Feed the Hungry again this year--last year I sort of half-assed it, and this year I'd like to do the timed 5K and see how I do.
So I'm getting out there, sweating, getting my heart rate up, and improving my time and speed all the time. It's nice to run from Mom and Dad's house, because I don't have to carry my keys when they're going to be at home to let me back in. I just carry my tiny little iPod and keep my running playlist pumping through the ear buds.
Hey, it keeps me runnin'.
