Picture Post: Victoria, British Columbia

A happy tulip overlooking the Inner Harbour

The Inner Harbour

I love this mix of cultures--all of Victoria feels this way.

At Butchart Gardens--glorious!

One of my favorite sign pictures.

This is the ferry that goes between Washington and Vancouver Island. It's
called the Coho.

The trip across the Straight of Juan de Fuca takes about 90 minutes.
I left RoPro on the car deck and spent the ride topside.

The Empress Hotel

The Empress had so many tulips (I was there in April).

These are ferry boats that go all over the harbour. I took a tour on one.

Royal B.C. Museum, as seen from the garden at the Empress.

Victoria has a thriving sea plane port.

Another great mixing of cultures--Jamaican steel drumming in an English-
inspired Canadian city with a huge Native American vibe. Excellent!

I had High Tea at the Empress--it was marvelous.

My blogging mojo is a bit off this week, so I thought I'd revisit my Spring Break 2006 trip to Victoria. I was living in Port Ludlow, WA at the time and it was easy enough to get there, and worth the trip. I drove about an hour to Port Angeles (made famous by the Twilight books and movies but in reality a not-so-thriving small city) and then took the 90-minute ferry jaunt to Vancouver Island.

I found Victoria to be not only gorgeous--just look at these pictures--but friendly and really easy to navigate on foot. I parked Rosie at the hotel the day I arrived and didn't drive her again until it was time to line her up for the ferry loading.

I really hope to go back someday.
