Holy Crap, You Did It

My mom sent me this picture a few days ago--"Where Women Create" is a publication she loves, and she said that this quote of the week reminded her of me.

I'm flattered.

March 13th was, of course, the 1-year anniversary of my big Mt. Diablo adventure. I set out to climb a mountain, and by God, I climbed that mountain. It was not easy, and I wanted to quit many times along the way. But I didn't--I simply kept putting one foot in front of the other and after several hours of sweating, grunting, blisters and near-tears moments, I reached the summit.

Since my last appointment with Gershom last July, I have struggled a little, even gaining back about 10 pounds (ahh, the holiday season) and it's been hard sometimes to keep myself going to the gym. There was bronchitis in October. Back pain last week. Slowly, I'm regaining my confidence. I've lost a lot of the running mojo I'd worked so hard to build up, and I'm trying to gain it back. I am trying to learn to do it by myself, without running to Gershom for help all the time. I find myself missing his interference sometimes. He kept me honest.

At the gym today, I was working out near where he was working with a client. I heard him tell her he'd be teaching a Boot Camp class this weekend. I didn't want to interrupt and butt in, so I just did my thing. A few minutes later, he walked over to me and told me about it. "You should come."

I have a Chorale fundraiser I volunteered to help with, but I'm thinking I might leave that a bit early and go to the class. I need a kick in the butt. I need Gershom egging me on. I think even just one hour, with the occasional "Come on, Megan, I know you can do better than that!" and "Good job, Megan!" from ole G. the Meanie will be just the thing to remind me of what I'm capable of, of how far I've come. Sometimes I forget that I'm strong.

So that's where I stand. Still a size 10 a year out and I'm happy with that, even though ideally, I'd like to lose 20-30 more pounds. I'm still the lady that lost 60 pounds, and I know I can keep on going.
