My cell phone rang this morning, a little after 10:00. The screen said, "Summer Home," so I eagerly answered, always happy to talk to a friend.
I'll admit to getting a little bit of cabin fever, being unemployed. And it's more common than I'd like to admit for me to go whole days--more than two at a time, sometimes--wearing only workout gear or pajamas. So when Summer said, "I need to get out of the house today!!" I happily responded, "So do I!!"
We met in Pleasanton for lunch at Fresh Choice and a wander around the mall. I bought a darling tank top at JC Penney (even though we are nowhere near needing tank tops right now). I couldn't resist--it is red with white polka dots and it was $7.99. After a wander around the mall, we decided to see a movie, and ended up watching "True Grit." It was an excellent movie--well-written, well-acted (the girl who plays Maddie was marvelous!) and aside from having a rattlesnake scene (why do all Westerns have to have a rattlesnake scene? My poor nerves!), it was probably one of the best movies I've seen in the theaters in a while.
More importantly, I got out of the apartment for a day, had some time with a dear friend, and came back to Stockton this evening feeling refreshed and happy to settle into my cozy little home for the night. Tomorrow I'll clean cat cages and buy new running shoes, maybe run a few loads of laundry. Back to getting stuff done that needs to be done. But today was a Summer Day, and it was just what I needed.
