Somewhere Only We Know

I have mentioned this song a few times recently, and I thought I'd do a quick post about it (I know I've featured it before). It is truly one of my favorite songs ever, and it is the most-played song in my iTunes library, clocking in at over 700 plays.

It is from Keane's first album, Hopes and Fears. It wasn't the first single, but it was probably the most famous, at least here in the United States.

Here's the U.K. official video:

I don't know why I love it so much--I know that I loved it before I ever saw Keane live in concert. There's something so grand about it, so anthemic and gorgeous. From Tim's opening piano chords to the larger-than-life chorus, it's just a great tune.

It's absolutely magical live:

You can hear the whole audience singing along, and it shows Tom's habit of letting the audience take over for the last chorus. The theater was positively bursting with the noise of everyone singing along. I had chills running down my spine.

Recently, the boys decided to switch things up during a soundcheck...Tim (keyboards) played bass; Jesse (bass) played drums; Tom (lead singer) played the keyboard, and Richard (drummer), gave singing a go.

Now, Richard sings backup all the time on stage and recordings. I think he actually does a lot of the higher, falsetto stuff. As a soloist, however, he's simply...not Tom. I am impressed by his ability to stay on pitch, and he definitely gets better as he goes along (how he can forget the words to Keane's biggest hit ever is beyond me!!). He really sounds like there's promise there, but also a ton of nerves that make any breath support leave the building.

I have to say, though, my favorite part is at the very end, when you hear a very sheepish Richard say, "I'm never doing that ever again!"

Thanks to the awesome KAZW15 for capturing and sharing this!!

Anyway, that's my favorite song, the one that's been mentioned a bunch in the last few days.
