Remembering Burnham

In relating yesterday's snake story to my English friend Sarah on Facebook, I got thinking about Burnham-on-Crouch. See, Burnham had adders, though I never saw one (thank goodness).

I'm always happy to post pictures of Burnham, so here's a photo retrospective of my favorite little English town.

The White Harte Hotel, on the quay.

Along the High Street

A familiar sign for this train-lover.

The marina

Flower pots at the Cabin Dairy Tea Rooms

Pharmacy, post office and photo processor, all in one.

The clock tower on the High Street

The Crouch at low tide.

Farmland along the river

Taken from the train, coming into Burnham.

I don't know how many cards and letters were sent to the US from this box!

The Quay

Tiny Burnham Rail Station

The Limes--a farm shop I walked by every time I went to work, the market, the
rail station...anywhere.

One of my earliest pictures from Burnham. Love the red sail.

The Crouch is saltwater at this point.

Kathy's garden. I spent some time reading on a lounge chair in this garden!

Southminster Road, and way off in the distance, the school I worked at.

Yes, that house has a thatched roof.

St. Mary's, a medieval church--I could see it from my classroom windows.

Sunset on the Crouch, taken from the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club.
