Saturday was the saddest day--my week of fun was over, and I had to drive Maayan to Sacramento so she could return to New York. We spent the drive singing along--loudly--to a Mumford and Sons CD and rehashing the concert and our trip to Monterey. The drive flew by and before I knew it, I was hugging her goodbye and watching her go up the escalator to the security checkpoint.

I was left to drive back to Stockton--for the first time in days, I was alone in my car--where a trip to Target and the grocery store waited. Life got mostly back to normal on Sunday, when I cleaned cages at PetCo and relaxed at home with a DVD. I began the long process of organizing my thoughts and uploading my pictures, and thinking about resuming my normal workout schedule.
When Mumford and Sons first announced the Santa Barbara show, I snapped up tickets, just in case they didn't come back this way again. Maayan couldn't go to that show, but said, "Tell you what--if they come to San Francisco, I'll fly out and go with you." In the meantime, Meghan was thrilled to take the second ticket. When, a few weeks later, the Railroad Revival Tour was announced, and the tickets purchased, Maayan bought a plane ticket and the excited planning began. Then I found that Sarah would be in my neighborhood. I would never have intentionally planned for everything to fall into one week, but it did, and it worked out. There was a lot of driving--on Saturday, I looked at my trip odometer and found that I'd put a whopping 1,500 miles on Rosie Pro. She's a champ! Her bumper was covered in bugs, which I finally got around to washing off a few days ago at Mom and Dad's house with Dad's pressure washer.
There were moments of hilarity and great conversations. There were joyous hugs of greeting and the bittersweet hugs that happen at the end of a great adventure, as you say goodbye and wonder when you'll visit again. There was great music and plenty of singing along. But the most important thing was the friendship--an old friend, a far-away friend, and a new friend, but all people I care about and was happy to see.
I know I've used the word a lot, and maybe it seems silly, overused...but truly, that week was epic.
