I've decided that one of the coolest experiences I could have in life would be to be part of a flash mob.
I guess it's the attention-loving musician in me, but it seems like it would be thrilling to be the brave soul that goes out into the middle of a crowded train station and starts busting a move, to be joined soon after by many others. What a way to brighten the otherwise mundane day of the commuters, right?
I'll have to figure out how one gets in on a flash mob. Craigslist? Message boards?
In the meantime, here are a few of my favorites.
At a Black-Eyed Peas concert for Oprah in Chicago:
My favorite flash mob ever--this is Liverpool Street Station in London--MY station to Essex. I can't tell you how many times I walked through that station...never saw anything like this!
This one took place at the opening of the new student union--some great school spirit!
This one is marvelous--it's a flash mob to "Do Re Mi" from "The Sound of Music," performed in a Belgian train station. I love the inclusion of little kids.
And, you've got to include some Michael Jackson, and an awesome, laid-back city like Seattle.
I guess what I take away from these is that it brings so many people--perfect strangers--together for a few minutes. No one is pissed off watching this, they're laughing, they're smiling, they're taking pictures and videos. It takes a mundane, normal commute day and makes it special.
So don't be surprised if my cheesy, gap-toothed stage smile is beaming at you on YouTube someday.
