As I was leaving for my concert, I saw the police leaving the apartment next door. I followed them and said, "I'm the one who called...it sounded so bad!" They said that the mother told them she has a special needs child who sometimes has outbursts. They seemed satisfied, and they thanked me for calling.
I'm glad they didn't see it as a waste of time or something. I couldn't just do nothing, right?

Yep. Better safe than sorry!
You could have done nothing, but you didn't, and you're a better person for it. You did the right thing.
Good on you for calling. But yeah, having a special needs child can really make people think you're doing something bad. I know several families with that problem. It's so much work.
