My lovely friend at The Life and Times has posted a couple of awesome posts about lady singers she loves. We are both singers, and she pointed out in her blog that she seems to favore male singers in the stuff she listens to. I agreed, saying we must be projecting our criticims of our own voices on the female singers we hear.
One of the female artists she mentioned loving was Annie Lennox. She referenced the song "Walking on Broken Glass," and I had to applaud her choice. It made me think of my own Annie favorite--No More "I Love You's" Embedding of the video is disabled, so you have to click on the link to see it. Annie is all kinds of fabulous in the video, with her usual theatric flair on display.
No More "I Love You's"
I used to be lunatic from the gracious days
I used to be woebegone and so restless nights
My aching heart would bleed for you to see
Oh but now...
(I don't find myself bouncing round whistling
and fortunes to make me cry)
No more "I love you's"
The language is leaving me
No more "I love you's"
Changes are shifting outside the word
(The lover speaks about the monsters)
I used to have demons in my room at night
Desire,despair,desire,so many monsters
Oh but now...
(I don't find myself bouncing round whistling
buttonhole tunes to make me cry)
No more "I love you's"
The language is leaving me
No more "I love you's"
The language is leaving me in silence
No more "I love you's"
Changes are shifting outside the word
They were being really crazy
They were on the come.
And you know what mammy?
Everybody was being really crazy.
Uh huh.
The monsters are crazy.
There are monsters outsides.
No more "I love you's"
The language is leaving me
No more "I love you's"
The language is leaving me in silence
No more "I love you's"
Changes are shifting outside the word
