Sickening

Because of donations I've made, I recieve email updates from the Humane Society of the United States. Most of the time I glance at them and delete them, but the most recent email deserves more than a glance.

A Humane Society representative went undercover in a research lab that houses monkeys and chimps, and was appaled by what was found. Animals are not only bored in their confined cages, they are terrorized on a regular basis, forced into restraint systems, and drugged by dart guns.

This is disgusting! If you decide to watch it, here's fair warning: it is upsetting in the extreme. The squeals and screams of the animals made my stomach turn, and I can't even finish watching the video.

Chimps are highly intelligent creatures who share 98% of our DNA. They are obviously bored, upset and unable to defend themselves. Some have turned to self-mutilation in their confusion and pain.

I encourage anyone who is outraged by this to contact their local representative. The Humane Society has thoughtfully provided a form you can fill out to make it super-easy. It even finds your representative for you.
